Of Twitter, A Ballad

I've never been quite so nervous posting something to my blog. This is my first public attempt at poetry--be gentle!

Oh Twitter's where I go to take
A rest from my day's cares
A needed little mental break
And thus I stay aware

Because it's where I go to find
The slap-fights of the day
Plus Adam Roberts' awful puns
The #hash games folks do play

@CherylMorgan lets us know
Of all the rugby scores
Plus cricket, racing, baseball too
As well as our awards

There's all the news that's fit to print
From SFSignal's tid-bits
Plus CNN and SFWA too
And fluffcthulhu's squid bits

The Aussies tweet while we're asleep
They talk amongst themselves
About anthologies and tea
But not so much of elves

Niall Harrison and @grahamsleight
Talk books and Dr. Who
If we could lure Nussbaum in
We would complete our crew

With Paolo and Tim Pratt we see
Just how the pros throw down
While Office Baby's antics keep
My mind on Oakland town

McCalmont's lost more weight, I see
Graham Raven has left Portsmouth
Jay Lake is still alive, thank ghod
And NASA tweets from orbit

And so my friends both far and wide
And folks I do not know
Do oddly thus enrich my life
As conversations grow

Excellent job! Although the fourth stanza carries the rest. ;)

That's clever!
Guess it's about time I got a Twitter account...

Thanks guys!

I won't lie, Twitter is one heck of a procrastination device. But I've found it to be way more interesting than I would've thought--mostly thanks to the quality of the folks I follow.

Very clever, but I'm afraid even this can't tempt me. Besides the fact that Twitter is blocked at my workplace, I've already got too many distractions keeping me from updating the blog as often as I'd like.

Abigail - I don't blame you! I'm always a bit amazed that twitter isn't blocked at my work, but luckily NASA has embraced social media with a vengeance.

It's still a big ol' time waster, no matter how you slice it, though.

For a first attempt, you did just fine! I enjoyed reading it ... you keep writing, I'll keep reading.
