There's a point at the end of the story where the author suggests that, in a world without neanderthal-based slavery they would have had an industrial revolution (which we did) and that the pollution produced from this revolution would have pushed back the coming of the next ice age (incredibly dubious claim). It appeared like it was going to be this beautiful story that maybe I didn't entirely get but had something to do with not just taking from that tragedy but offering something back and then it got odd. Coulson was taken away. The audience (& heroes) saw 'the spot where he died (after)'. So it's possible (especially given that this is a comic book movie and in comic books, 'death' is rarely permanent (just ask Gwen Stacey)) that Coulson was taken to an infirmary, revived, and placed on life support of some sort, further deepening Fury's manipulation of the heroes (and ultimately, the fans).

~P
@atfmbPatrick Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14318056993797663665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8573136768377847579.post-80037056359030866412012-06-18T12:17:21.233-05:002012-06-18T12:17:21.233-05:00Is that in one of the comics (Ithought that Coulso...Is that in one of the comics (Ithought that Coulson was new for the movies, not imported from the comics universe), or is that the plan for Avengers 2...?

Either way, the heroes (Cap, Stark, Thor, etc.) think of him as a mortal who has permanently died, so he's still being used and manipulated in his role as an everyman fan.Karen Burnhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16803309172414793939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8573136768377847579.post-69392253474263257702012-06-18T12:08:36.797-05:002012-06-18T12:08:36.797-05:00I suppose... you could look at it that way. Or, Fury knows he has all the technology necessary to bring Coulson back to life as a Superhero, so Coulson's not really dead per se, he's just going to be different; if Coulson represents fans, thusly fans are being brought into the story as superhero(s), which is what being a fan is all about.HodagWriterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11129520309441425869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8573136768377847579.post-39303638225086436382012-05-17T10:10:15.051-05:002012-05-17T10:10:15.051-05:00Mary, thank you for your kind words!
